My journey began watching my husband, Derek. He had been diagnosed with diabetes years before, and after some time got serious about his health, losing over 60 pounds. In 2013, he finished his first Tough Mudder competition with a group of friends. While he did this I sat on the sidelines, feeling a little jealous because I was 40 lbs. overweight and out of shape. In 2014 we celebrated his 50th birthday with another Tough Mudder, but this time I joined him, at the age of 53. This is when my health and wellness journey begin and I’ve never looked back.
My journey started with exercise, but when we adopted a German Shepherd we named Domino, I started walking with her for her health. I realized how much I enjoyed it, and it was good for me too. From here I started walking with a group of women. Soon I developed a love of running and began running several time a week. In 2014 I ran my first half marathon and in 2017 at the age of 56 finished my first full marathon.
Through my journey into self care, I felt led to help others. We started Datomotiv as an effort to reach out to people like myself and my husband... people who've raised a family, ready to retire, and want to live a full, healthy life. As my understanding and knowledge has grown, Datomotiv had to grow too. Now we are Shelley Health and Wellness, embracing both the nutritional and exercise aspects to great health, and ready to offer services to anyone in need from any age group or background.
